Industry Applications | Caliper Automated Processing Line
A caliper is a component that applies force to the brake disc. Hydraulic pressure generated by the master brake cylinder acts on the piston inside the caliper. After the piston expands, it pushes the brake pads against the brake disc, slowing down, stopping, or holding a moving wheel.
Processing Difficulties:
The main processing areas are concentrated inside the workpiece cavity, requiring special angle tools in conjunction with special functions of the machine tool. The workpiece has multiple angles that need to be processed, and the workpiece blank has a large allowance, making chip removal difficult. Blanks are used for positioning. In addition, considering the compatibility of multiple products, workpiece marking is required to ensure identification after anodizing.
Solution:
During project implementation, Beijing Smart Technology Co., Ltd. used 5-axis equipment and angled tools to achieve internal cavity machining, and configured an automatic measurement device for automatic workpiece alignment compensation. A spray cooling device with 70 bar high-pressure cooling was also used to remove a large amount of aluminum chips. In addition, PCD tools were extensively used to ensure processing stability, and special marking equipment and methods were adopted to ensure automatic recognition and identification.
Results:
The caliper automated processing line provided by Beijing Smart Technology to Shenzhen B Company is operating smoothly, with good tool life and actual operating capacity exceeding the preset target by 10%. Integrated calipers are the direction of development for new energy vehicles, and Beijing Smart Technology Co., Ltd. will provide customized solutions based on customer needs.
